Nice FJC. FWIW, there are a bunch of FJC's outside the US and it's a great vehicle to take overseas. The number of vehicles outside the US, particularly in East Africa, continues to increase with exports from the UAE to Mombasa (many California cars were sold to UAE customers at a markup) and with the ever-growing population of right-hand-drive FJC's on the market. If you're thinking of exploring outside the US, think about taking the FJC with you; it's a better choice than you might think.

My thread on my FJC project (now sold to a friend who drives between northern Uganda and South Sudan on a regular basis):

IMHO one of the flaws of the fj is that there is no transmission temp gauge. Once the "light" comes on you have already scorched the oil. That being said virtually no one has reported much transmission trouble and even at the recommended oil change intervals (which are way high) my oil checked out fine on analysis but....... On one occasion pulling a lightweight offroad trailer over Mosquito pass (13185ft) in Colorado (in 3 foot of snow) I did get the warning light. Obviously under those conditions I was brutalizing the tranny but it held up fine.

For me the cooler is simply good maintenance....a cooler transmission last longer (cooler withing reason). I also installed a digital gauge. Hope this helps.
