FJ/FZJ80 vs. Taco Double Cab

I suppose I can add that our long highway road-trips will not be in the off-road rig. Those are either in my Dodge mega-cab or the wife's mall-crawler.

The new off-road toy will be used as my DD (right now the mega-cab is my DD since the XJ was stolen), weekend warrior, and hunting rig. For camping, the mega cab will be towing a camper with the off-road toy attached to the rear of the camper being flat towed (yes double towing is legal in CO, so long as over length is within restrictions).

These logistical points may change some of your opinions.

DD and hunting truck? I think this is a no-brainer here and almost everyone would agree: Taco. I'm also looking for a Tacoma (although an ext cab for the extra bed space) for my hunting, skiing, camping (either solo or one other person) rig.

X2. I have owned both a built up '01 Taco DC TRD on 33s, and currently DD a '96 80 series. For what you are doing, and for that matter, for what I do, the Taco wins hands down. While on an emotional level, the 80 is my favorite vehicle off all times, I would be so much better off with our DC Taco. Never should have sold that Taco...

I had an 05 Tacoma. Loved it everywhere but off road. IFS is a huge compromise slanted toward street ability and lower production costs that will get the job done for sure, just not as comfortably as a solid front, IMHO. I now have an 80 cruiser. Will add an off road trailer to compensate for lack of a truck bed and will never look back!
