FJ40 frame

I've located a 71 that is complete but apparently has bad rust on the frame. I've not been able to look it over but I might this weekend.

I'm familiar with frame swaps on series Rovers-is the 40 similar? Is a frame swap something common?

Absolutely, in fact you can even buy aftermarket bolt-on frames complete with power steering and suspension mods. Find a clean frame and do the swap. Its likely ~15-20 hours for the complete R&R, do a body mount kit while your in there to simplify things.

Spectre has some used frames in stock.

Matkins Extreme used to build frames to your specifications for LCs, but to the best of my knowledge they are no longer in business.

yes it is, we just completed one for a customer at the shop, and are in the process of doing another for an FJ62 with the same problem. We have a very clean 76 frame available right now that has been sandblasted and powder coated and is ready for the swap. We can perform the swap for you or you can purchase the frame and do it yourself - if you are interested PM or call me at the shop. The good thing is we are relatively close!

Thanks, for the info.

Now I just need to go check it out and...find the room to do the work, I really need a barn!

I just talked to Nathan here and he often heads down past NC to visit the family, he has offered to deliver it to any offramp along the I95 whenever he heads down next at no extra charge if that helps you out. If you need any more detailed shots I'll be happy to accomodate!

In the link for the place that makes new frames they mentioned they shipped them raw so the customer could powder coat or galv the frame. I don't recall it being mentioned as much as it is on Rover forums. In the threads I've seen on resto's it seems that frames get painted and/or POR'd.
