FJ60 + ARB Front + Warn 8274

Recently bought an '85 FJ60 which had been modified by a previous owner. It has what he describes as an "older" ARB front bumper. To this he mounted a Warn XD9000i winch. To make it fit, he removed the solenoid pack and mounted the winch on its side. The solenoid pack was relocated behind the front valence between the grill and radiator.

I've been educated by a wench or two but I'm winch ignorant and have some questions:

--I've seen the term "mounted feet forward". Does this mean the normal winch orientation is with it's mounting holes facing forward?

--Is the XD9000i designed to be mounted "feet down" therefore the PO had to cut off and relocate the solenoid pack to get it mounted on a bumper designed for a "feet forward" winch?

--I have an earlier Warn 8274 (not a -50). Never had it mounted but it looks to me like it is designed to mount "feet forward".

With the current set-up the solenoids are exposed (no cover) and have some leaves & etc laying on them which to me does not look like a good situation. My options are to (1) relocate and cover/protect the XD9000i solenoids or (2) remove the XD9000i and mount the 8274?

That leaves the final question: will an early 8274 mount up to an "older" ARB FJ60 front bumper?

Thanks

Yes.

Yes, the mighty 8274 must be mounted "feet forward".

The 8274 has a different mounting bolt spacing than any planetary winch. It should be obvious from comparing your bumper with your 8274 whether it would mount up or not - but if the XD9000 fit without modifications to the bumper, it's pretty safe to say that the 8274 won't fit without mods. The difference is big enough that the bumper must be made for the 8274.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll get measurements on the 8274 hole spacing and do the same on the bumper. Until now I assumed the spacing was standard.

After reading this I dug deeper on the ARB site and found their application guide for the FJ60:

http://www.arbusa.com/uploads/PDF/accessorizeYourRig/toyotaLandCruiser60.pdf

It shows ARB winch bar p/n 3410100 for both the 9000 and 8274.

Have not checked overall dimensions of the 8274 yet but looks like it will be snug fore and aft from the bumper to grill and side to side between the bumper uprights.

ARB recommends dropping the bumper to mount the winch. I wanted to verify the 8274 would fit before doing that.

Sorry I can't be of more specific help on your ARB bumper; my 8274 is on a Man-A-Fre 4+ bumper (on my 40), and there was plenty of room to mount it with the bumper already on the truck.

i had a older arb bullbar i bought for my 60 as well and mounted a 8274-50, i had to trim a piece so the brake would clear as well as a light tab.. no big deal and it mounted cleanly after that...the 8274 is the best winch going in my opinion and looks like it was made to go on a cruiser

The ARB bull bar for the FJ60 is one of the few actually made for the 8274. It should fit without mods.

Here is my rig. I know it is an 80 instead of a 60, but it is an ARB Commercial bar/Warn 8274.

Warn 8274 fits perfectly.

I appreciate that.
