FJ60 rear hatch replacement?

My rear windshield is broken and the dealer here in Portland OR wants to charge me $680 for a new glass/gasket install. Instead, I am looking to replace the whole rear hatch on my '84 FJ60 because I have seen prices for the hatch around $250 on craigslist. Does anyone out there know if a '88 hatch will fit an '84? Should I be looking to buy the rear hatch and tailgate together or are they compatible? Are there any resources out there that will tell me if a body part from one year will fit another?

The guys over on mud, would have answered this already, they are the LC gurus, but i believe that the hatch fits, but if I recall correctly, the hatch on the 88 will be wired for the electric locks that came standard on FJ-62's. I don't believe that will make a difference.

As far as whether you should buy them together, I don't think that is necessary. Make sure you check the new hatch for rust, as they are prone to it around the hinge area and at the bottom of the glass.

Physically it will fit fine, as noted the FJ62 may or may not have the power lock setup.

These rear tailgates and proper glass & gasket for FJ60s is getting pretty scarce. Get what you can, while you can.

Try local glass shop also, they're usually more reasonable.

Great idea. Also try CruiserParts.net, I've bought a few misc. parts from them over the past couple of years with good results.
