The only good thing here is that its not my cruiser, it's a freinds.

Save your money and effort- replacement of the seal may just slow down the leak but not eliminate it- been there, done that!!!

Oil seal

The rear main seal on my 62 leaked from the day I bought w/40K on it till it found a new home with 180K. Always a few drops and the back of the engine and oil pan always glistened. I came to believe that the Cruiser thought it was a Land Rover.

I had the same problem, then I put some RTV sealant on the oil drain plug when I changed the oil and it never leaked again.....turnd out it was not the rear main at all...worth a try

Can't say I'm proud to make this comparison, but how much oil can you buy for the price of a rear main seal fix?
