Is there a differance between the automatic and manual FJ62 as far as the diff gear ratio is concerned?

There were no factory FJ62s with manual trannys sold in the US.

Well that answers that, now, now with the british cars, they did invent the intermitant wipers and dimmer switch if not by accident.

I am going to say, do some research and understand caster. If you do, you can answer your own question.

You want caster 3-5* back from center. Anybody who tells you otherwise either doesn't understand caster or doesn't drive their truck on the pavement much.

With a SOA you can set the caster at the same time the new leaf perches are welded onto the axle housing. More than likely though this will mess up pinion angle. Both are important and both need to be taken into consideration. Generally people will set the pinion angle when doing a SOA and then do the c&t afterwards to set caster right. Pinion angle is only going to matter though in 4wd at speeds over say 15-20mph. Bad pinion angle will produce vibrations, noise and premature wear of the u-joints in the driveline. Bad caster will make it drive like total garbage at any speed over say 30mph, most noticed on pavement. Easiest to set the pinion to point at the t-case and then just run a DC front shaft. That solves pinion angle issues. Without a DC shaft the margin for error on pinion angle is very small, like 1-2*. Best to deal with both when you do a SOA.

A cut & turn is fairly simple. If you have basic tools, a 220v welder, some levels and an angle finder plus take your time a c&t is no big deal. I just did it on my 80 a few months ago, it was easy. Cruiser drives 10x better after the C&T, if not more.

BTW, use the RuffStuff SOA bracket for the 60/62 front axle. It is designed for SOA on the 9.5" axle and it works great for that.

Cheers
