...from a a sellers prospective we need to make sure every product meets safety standards and is crash tested if it revolves around a restraint system, so a portion of the price you pay goes into the research and development and guarantee that it it is going to hold up to a specific force:ylsmoke:

I totally get what you are saying here and the idea of safety certainly sells a lot of folks - but frankly - if I am in a collision that has a box or a sleeping bag ripping through welded metal mesh and/or distorting it's metal frame, there are larger concerns at hand.

You have to have ZERO confidence in your welder and materials to pay $600 for something that can be made locally, with no shipping, for ~$450 less. I am sure there are those types out there.

Good Luck! I am all for entrepreneurism!

Yes, price seems to be the issue...but that is back when the money exchange rate was like 0.55 to 0.62 to the America Dollar. Now it is like 0.95 or so....this lowers our cost BIGTIME.
Expo, you may want to double check that. Back then, the exchange rate was in our favor at $1AUS to $0.62US dollar. Now it is closer to 1:1 and so it has gotten much worse for us.

shatt this was unbelievably easy to make once i figured out how i wanted to mount it, for me it was a no brainer in my 55, but an nice interior would require a bit more thought, still though, easy to make and i'd be happy to make you one if you were local.

I would be far more concerned about design than weld quality. I am certain making a strong enough weld is pretty simple. But if the barrier is not securely fastened in the vehicle, it is just one more potentially lethal flying object.
