FJZ80 to LR3, am I asking for trouble?

A LR3 can be perfectly reliable if you change your outlook a touch.
A land Rover likes to get love and attention, otherwise it can get huffy.

At 100k i would expect to have receipts for the following having been carried out.
Front lower wishbones changed, arb bushes all round, rear upper wishbones and maybe the drop links. A gearbox oil change should be done every 100k. That's ZF the box makers own opinion. Diff oils should be every 3-4 years. The oil is cheap and changing them is easy.
I would check the rear propshaft bearing, as they can sometimes go.
Due to the large amount of electrical items, the battery and alternator need to be in good condition. One of these failing can throw up many warning lights.
Also, don't fit cheap bulbs to them. Go genuine as i've heard and seen first hand, cheap bulbs blowing that have sent electrical systems into full retard mode. Genuines are cheap anyway.

An IID will do everything you need for software related issues. Otherwise, have a slush fund to fix any issues you may come across.

The plus side of a land rover is the huge community they have. The site Disco3.co.uk has been up since 2005 and literally every issue you could ever face, had happened and the advice on what to check and how to fix it is on there. You can use the search function as it's pretty good.

The highest D3 in the UK is on over 550k, with over 360k of that towing a trailer. The gearbox went to 330k before needing changed, purely because at the time, ZF hadn't instructed the oil had to get changed, they had before said it was a "sealed for life" box.

Mine is on 117k, runs as good as new, i've spent a bit on tidying it up but i'm a perfectionist about my cars so i tend to try and keep them in great condition. In theory, that should keep them reliable and keeps them worth more when i sell on.
Would you pay x for the wreak or pay more to get the good condition model with a folder of paperwork to back it's life.
