flippac sizes for Tacoma new and old

I have a flippac on a 2002 Toyota pre-runner and want a new 4wd Tacoma. I know the bed sizes are a little different but I am wondering if my old flippac will fit on a new Tacoma. Anyone ever done this since the change in body styles on a Tacoma? 2004 vs 2005. I don't think the bed dimensions are different from 2005 to 2011.

Length is the same (5 or 6 ft bed) , but IIRC correctly the 2005+ is a wee bit wider... best bet is to measure side by side in a parking lot ;)

I have measured at the lot. The overhang of my flippac on the sides of the prerunner is about 2" which puts it flush side to side in the middle of the new truck. Since the new body is tapered it should overhang about 1" at the front and rear of the bed on the sides. The length is what I was worried about. I know with the plastic bed coverings on the sides the front of the bed is just a bit lower. Not a big problem. I just wondered if anyone has done this and encountered a big problem before I shell out cash for a new truck and find an issue. Thanks for the input Tacodoc. By the way did you remove the plastic protectors on the top of the sided before installation or just fill the front gap? Does your flipppac cover all the way to the edge of the front bed or sit back just a bit? Thanks again. Impressed with your build and plan to steal a few of your ideas. Marty

Remember there are only two widths of flippac. That wide lip at the bottom of it accommodates most everything, although you may have to get creative in the mounting.

You're right it's just the length to be concerned about, but should work if the bed length is "roughly" the same. The lip at the front of the bed is big too.

Mine is a longbed/wide one, so I don't have specific help. When I ordered mine, they had one for a chevy 8ft bed and clamped it to mine to show me how it would work. And when mine was ready and I arrived to get it, it was sitting on a Dodge longbed.

Yes, the plastic bed caps have been removed, better seal and it matches the front better but still needs copious silicone and bulb gaskets to seal to my standards. The FP does sit back just a hair in the front, but like Linda says the bottom surface of the FP is so generous that it is no problem.

Harp,

In case you're interested, here are some close up examples of the "copious amounts of silicone and bulb seal" that Doc mentioned. I took a suggestion from him earlier this year and did a meticulus job in sealing "everything" up incl the tailgate and rear hatch.

Sounds like you've done some good measurement comparisons and shouldn't have a problem with the swap. :)

Do I understand?

I have this same question, just never e-mailed the folks at AT yet.

I have an 02 DC 5 foot bed that I want to keep 3 or more years still, but then replace with the newer style DC 5 foot bed.

I was planning to wait on the FP till I got the new truck, but I could get one that fits both? well?

To the OP, can you post pics of your top on both when you get the new truck (PS congrats)

Thx

Jay

Will do, I have measured many times and the input I learned here confirms, the ordered flippac would be the same size. A 5 foot bed is a 5 foot bed. They make the side rails wider at flippac to fit the different widths of trucks.
Hey tacodoc did they bolt yours down to the track in the bed? I think I can see that from photos but not really sure.

Okay. I have a question about this size stuff. Does anyone know if a flip pac off a 2004 Tundra will fit on a 2008 Taco? It is 3 hours away or I would just measure. Seems it might be bit wide sticking out the sides.
