SilverWolf ,

Hey thanks for the heads up . Everyone feel free to chime in on this .. After I get the running boards off . I plan to take out the rear seats to make room for the platform/drawers/etc . I have noticed there are many ways to skin a cat when it comes to building platforms for sleep and storage. So after I rip the carpet out I was thinking of using Rhino liner or finding a rubber kit that will fit my model and year. Rhino liner or rubber replacement kit ???

Many Thanks ,
EVERYONE

Not really here
Rhino liner will probably be more cost effective, but much harder to take out if you decide it's not for you. Though I will say that you can always just put the rubber mat on top if you decide the rhino liner isn't cutting it. I have stewed over this for a bit as well. I pulled the carpet and left the mat back there because I've got dogs that use that area.

Just recently ordered a rear cargo mat from weather tech for my 94. Should be the same as for a 98. has marked spots to cut for the cargo rings and all. Has a tall lip all the way around to hold in liquids but you could cut it down easily. maybe I'll bump into you sometime, I'm out in Gresham

CRANK SHAFT SENSOR....

Hey Everyone,

Sorry everyone for not keeping up on the thread. However I have been keeping up on the build and documenting as I have been going along. When she finshed I plan on putting up all the info I have aquired during this learning process of being a Gen 2.5 owner and hope that documenting my experience will be helpful to new owners and new people reserching these rigs....

Anyways gentlemen I'm being told that my crank shaft sensor has gone out and I trust the diagnosis. So now I have a chance to share labor with other repairs .. So beyond doing the timing belt and seals and water pump and replace the crankshaft sensor does anyone have suggestions on other repairs or replacements that should be be done at the time of the tear down ????

Also if anyone is in the Portland area hit me up I am looking to sorce some things and have questions on some getting some local FAB work done...

Thanks ,

May as well do the valve guide seals at the same time since it was smoking anyways. New seals should last close to 100k or so.

Exhaust Manifold NEEDED..........ANYONE ???

Hello Everyone,

Hey so today is the day that I got my heads back from the shop . No issues there . Last weeked when we were tearing into this thing we found what appeared to be a crack in the exhaust manifold. So I was like well lets just weld it. Turns out the crack is bigger than thought and no patch job is going to fix for this for good. Anyway I have spent most of the morning looking for the " R-side" exhaust manifold at all the junkyards within a 100 miles of Portland , OR .. Nothing ...

So after looking at the FSM for my rig and looking at years previous and a couple years ahead I found out that from May of 97 to may of 2002 the exhaust manifiold is the same.. So guys in short of me paying $380.00 for a new OEM exhaust manifold.Does anyone out there have access to a used one laying around or know where one is ?? Any suggestions or directions in the right direction would be greatful... Please Pm me if you know of anything or leave a post on my build thread ...

Thanks

Need advice ...

Hello everyone,

I need some help in locating or pointed in the right direction for a few items . I have looked and looked for snorkles and everything I come across needs to have a few mods done in order to work. It would be great if it did not ..

Bouncy seats" plus any additional parts" x2
Snorkle
Front locking hubs " stories of improved fuel economy " please say its true ??

Old man emu suspension /spacers // Does anyone personally have these and I'm wondering if in the long run I'm going to feel that I don't have the clearance I want or need " .. Please chime in guys. " 31's".... I was told that at most i would get only 1in 0.50 ...

Has anyone chipped there rigs computers ?

Best place for 2nd battery placement ?

I have manual locking hubs installed. Noticed that I get maybe 20-30 miles more out of a tank, considering that its mostly highway driving.

I was gonna point you to car-part.com at first but I see you found a nice local pick and pull place.

What mods are you trying to avoid for a snorkel? Fender cutting? Not likely to find a way around it. Other than that, it's simply finding the right parts to get it to fit. No other vehicle mods required. You will need the gen 2.5 snorkel which I believe TJM makes but doesn't import into the US.

Bouncy Seats: Gen I & II bouncies are available. Gen I's are more prevalent but will require mods to fit the gen II.
Yes a snorkel & manual hubs should give you the slightest improvement in fuel economy due to the ram air effect (snorkel) and reduced rotating mass (manual hubs) but most likely it will be negligible.

The reason you want a snorkel is to prevent water intrusion and possible reduce dust intake into the engine.

The reason you want manual hubs is to reduce wear and tear on the front axles.

If you're looking for a major fuel economy improvement, then modify your driving style. For most driver's it's the easiest & most cost effective way to improve fuel economy. Look up hypermiling to see what I'm talking about.

In the rear, I'm using just regular polyurethane spacers for a Toyota Sequoia. Probably nearly identical to OME spacers. I am not running their heavy duty springs and will likely upgrade to them in the not too distant future to get added carrying capacity in back. Up front I have a torsion bar crank providing extra lift.
Please elaborate on what you're asking about 31's. Unfortunately it's far from coherent.

I don't believe the ECU can be chipped without replacing the entire engine computer (chipping entails swapping the eprom which holds the programming for the ECU) since the eprom is soldered to the computer.

That said, IIRC others have used a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party computer but this was on a rig with a modified engine that was no longer stock. Also I believe it was a gen 1 and not a gen 2.

Not sure about the spare battery since I have a Gen 2 SR with a different engine. In my case it probably won't be housed in the engine bay unless I make major mods to change where things are located.

Who makes manuel hups for gen 2 (2.5)? Im interested in the increase in fuel economy! Where can I get some and how difficult to install are they?
