Fold or tip out bed?

I have a family of five, and was wondering if it is possible to have a fold out or tip out style bed on the side of a pop up camper. I am thinking of the type found on a hybrid trailer hinged along the bottom and supported like a tent trailer bed. I wonder if it would effect the structural integrity of the frame. I could sure use the extra bunk. Anyway there is some late night mind wondering for you. Found a picture of what I was thinking. Of course it would have to be smaller on a camper, but it would only need to sleep one.

Outfitter has one as well but it's a ridiculously massive thing.

I've been looking at the Northstar option as well. The choice is hard--make the tall spouse curl up to sleep or get the potty? (Potty. Obviously.)

I'm only trying to fit 4 and a potty in a camper and not finding many good options so I hope you share what you end up with!

Coyote/Phoenix RV's, then you can customize for what you want. Everytime I check out others, it's always the same: "Oh, but if I do that, I can't get a shower/toilet" or "Darn, then I don't get a bunk bed." I need to clarify, no pop-out tent bed with the Coyote RV but a bunk bed. Outfitter and Hallmark do also.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I thought that I had seen it on a camper, but I could only find the Outfitter when I did a google search. I love the bed on the TC650. It would be just what I need. I really appreciated the video link it was great. It makes me wonder now how hard it would be to retro fit an older camper with a side bunk.

I'd love to see a successful retrofit!

The Northstar TC650 (or even their bigger models) are going to be pretty snug once the kids are bigger. The TC650 foldout is only 62" long, which is beyond most teenagers.

I could fit my family of 4 and a dog in a FWC Hawk right now but once someone else passes 5 ft, we'd have problems.

Now that I think about it, that'll be ten years, so maybe I shouldn't worry about it.

This is the 800XB on my Tundra. The fold out bed comes in real handy when I have 2 pups. As far as sleeping in the tent area, it would be awesome for young-uns but too short for an adult. There is the seating area just in front of the pop out that, when made into a bed, will fit an adult and any gear bags can go into the pop out area.

Knobbytracks, if I may resurrect this post, do you have the TC800 with builtin toilet? And how big is that extra bed?

Thanks!

mkish,

The fold out bed measures 74"X31". The couch/seating that makes into a regular bed utilizing the table top measures 78"X36".

As far as the toilet, no built in here. In a pop-up camper, I would prefer having any extra storage available to carry gear, food, etc. A porta-pottie works good enough for me.
