Just finished my folding table. For snack time I made a little shelf table on top of the lift. For cocktail hour a medium sized table folds out. Open it up and you have a big table for dinner!
I got the idea from the folding cockpit tables on yachts. I used some butler hinges and 2 of these folding shelf brackets. They're rated a 750 lbs so it's pretty sturdy! http://www.hardwaresource.com/hinges/FURNITURE+HINGES/Table+Hinges+-+Shelf+Hinges/Hinged+Shelf+Support%2C+Heavy+Duty
To support it my dad made a frame to go around the lift and mounted the hinges:
