Up for sale is my family's beloved 1986 Vanagon Syncro Westfalia. It has been pretty much completely redone cosmetically, though as with any vehicle of this age it is not perfect. Samwise (our nick name for the westy) has been our loyal companion all over the west coast in the short time we have owned it, however we are moving from our house with a 3 car garage to an apartment to be closer to family (about 50 miles away) and parking is a serious issue. E-Mail for more pics.
Body:
It was repainted by the previous owner who brought it down from Idaho and basically flipped it. I have no idea of its past beyond that. I do have pictures from the ad before the paint job showing it was not a rust bucket or anything. The paint job was done by a cheaper MACO style shop and they did a great job minus one or two areas where the seam rust was not fully dealt with. Looks great up close and from a distance minus those couple of spots. No major dings or body damage.
Mechanical:
2.1 Water Boxer which has run strong for us, it is currently leaking a little coolant out of the new water pump (needs tightened) and a small amount of oil from the driverside valve cover. These issues will both be addressed prior to the sale. The engine has about 230K on the odometer though and I have no clue if it was ever rebuilt etc. No warranties here other than it has taken us to PISMO and other far flung places and we never worried. The water pump, alternator and battery are new. The clutch "feels" new for whatever that is worth. Tires are almost new, probably 85%. The syncro system works great! Power steering which works great. Factory A/C but pump is missing, all other items seem to be complete (dash controls, hoses etc.).
Interior:
The interior has all been re-done, new Hawian print seat covers, new brown carpet (covered from day one by a full set of GoWesty rubber floor mats), and new GoWesty Hemp 3window canvas on the pop top. The seats are comfortable and the beds too!
Camper:
We installed a brand new propane tank, the stove works, the sinks pump needs replaced but the plastic tank is clean and in good shape with a new hose ran from the tank to the sink. The fridge kind of works, it doesn't get very cold (I am told this is normal?) we alwys used an ice chest. All doors and drawers are complete and work as they should.
I am sure I have forgotten something so give me a call for more info: Paul @ 760.six one seven.5772 and we can arrange for a time to see it as the pictures do not do it justice.
35K OBO Title in Hand, no tire kickers please!
Thanks and have a great day!
