I am not sure how good they are as shock absorbers. It may be better to fit them next to a good Shock absorber as dual shock set up.

I too wondered how well these work. I went with the WeldTecDesigns kit and Fox 2.0 shocks since even when I'm fully loaded it's not that much weight. It's a one ton van, two dirt bikes and a cooler of beer probably won't adversely affect the ride quality. I think there are some folks out there underestimating the load range of the stock springs.

I'd check out the BOSS kits that Canadian Suspension Importers sell. Last time I checked they were $300 Canadian... But the dollar has taken a beating. Most replace the Bumpstops above the axle. They can be run at 0 psi.

I understand the possible drawbacks. I have found that they dramatically improved the ride and handling of my Fj40. Improved ride, improved handling, adjustability, no lean. I've not experienced a downside. They are directly beneath the frame. I had newer stock springs re-arched with extra leaves... However with the hardtop, aux fuel tank, spare, etc...she squatted in the back... Not anymore.

Stay away from air shocks, they'll brake your frame, and are lousy shocks.
