Ford F-150 to receive 3.0L V6 diesel in 2018 ?

It's about time diesel makes its way into half ton trucks. I've had my ecodiesel for a year now. And could not imagine going back to a gasser. Only complaint is a slight lack of HP and a lack of competition to drive improvements. Ram seemed to have a slow start but after three years I'm finally seeing ED's just about everywhere I go. Hopefully with Ford jumping in it will drive increased sales of light Diesels.

I haven't been convinced that the small diesels are an advantage, given their up front cost and complexity. This is particularly so within Ford's half ton lineup, thanks to the high torque numbers of the ecoboosts. The key advantage then is range, unless you drive many, many miles per year. Now, if Ford can offer the engine at a reasonable price, the math may work out in the diesel's favor. The Td6 in the Range Rover is only a $2,000 upgrade, but the base engine is closer to Ford's 3.5 ecoboost than the 2.7. So it may be a $4,000 upgrade like the Ram - I'm sure the ultimate price will be determined by the market rather than cost.

But the Td6 is a good engine, and a good match against the ecodeisel.

It appears the td6 is what they are using. Called the Lion V6 currently used in the Range Rover it was developed when Ford still owned Jag and LR.
