18's vs 16's

Hello Fourbyland,
first off let me say i think your disco is kickass gorgeous!! one of the best looking i've ever seen! i am curious though... everyone else that seems to fix up disco's for off road, go to the 16" rims, but you've gone with the 18" rims.
do you find any advantage or disadvantage with the 18's when it comes to
off-roading?

thanks,

FK,

Thanks for the compliment.

As far as the 18's go they are 275/65-18 and they are made by Maxxis, I found them on ebay for a great price and 2 years later I will have to say that these tires have been more than I could have asked for and still going strong, weathered now but still strong. I have had no issues with lack of sidewall or anything of that nature and since I don't plan on going through any "less developed" countries anytime soon these will do fine for me for the moment.

Thanks for the input! i greatly appreciate it. it'll save me from having to go out and find 16" wheels and spending more money that i don't need to. i really think the 18" look fantastic and much more up to date as far as style goes and now that i know they perform great too, i'll go with the 18's. i'll post some photos after i install a lift and the tires.

I normally run 45 and will air down to 15- 20 psi. with no problem. Where you able to find some tires?

actually, some one on here offered to sell me a set of four 16" tires and rims for $200 US. dollars. so i should pick them up tomorrow. if i find that i don't like them, I'll go with the 18's then. if i do go with the 18's i may go with a goodyear tire.

we'll see...

i have to admit, the 16's aren't as stylish as the 18's that i have, but i mounted the 16's with the goodyear wranglers they came with today and they ride great! smooth riding on the hwy! haven't tried them off road yet.
i'll have to figure out how to bring the "style" back into the vehicle! i was thinking of chrome, but my friend thinks that will look too "Disco" (as in dance not as in discovery), i since my Discovery is white, i think the chrome will work, or i could always go with simi gloss black huh? i have to admit, the black rims on yours works Great with the body color.

please, never put chrome ANYTHING on a rover. that's how you ruin a vehicle.

this is my discovery before the wheel change. i don't think the chrome looks so bad. in fact i think it goes with the white color

powder baked rims

was curious about your rims... did you spray paint them black or did you have them powder-baked? if you sprayed them yourself, do you have a problem with chipping paint?

Thanks
Fk

Diehard Platinum

Noticed the battery was getting week so I upgraded to a Diehard Platinum PM-1.

Within a week it had worked my starter over so I replaced it also.
