Freezer Fridge Slide suggestions

TXLX,

I like that build. How has it held up?

It has held up fairly well, my Edgestar 63 stays in there nearly 100% of the time. The only Cons I've noted:
-The 24" slides are too short for my application, really need 28" or 30"
-The fridge slide rests on the tailgate when extended, which has kind of scuffed the carpet (I'm going to add a HDPE sheet on tailgate later, so it doesn't bother me)
-The Allen wrench I use to keep it closed or open.... I have misplaced it a coupe of times. Really need locking slides or another solution. No big deal.

I've only "needed" to use the stove table once when on the road and it worked great. But I'm thinking about building just a simple fridge slide out of metal or buying a Front Runner. Nothing wrong with my wood unit, but just want something a little cleaner looking and made of metal (didn't have a welder or fab tools before now).

If someone wants a slightly used Front Runner fridge slide PM me. I just sold my 4Runner and not putting the slide in the new Touareg.

I built these for just under $300 each. Very easy to make and super sturdy.

Looks good. Did you just bolt angle metal to the plywood for the base? How did you attach the diamond plate to the slide rail?

Yes, each track/slide is bolted to 2" angle iron and then bolted to the floor. The diamond plate is riveted to 1" angle iron.

^^ Wow, this looks great Jimo! The angle iron makes it tidy and low profile.

Thanks! I really lucked out with the height clearing the back door lip. I'm sure there are lots of options to adjust the height, but again, I it just fit.

Couple of questions... What brand slides did you use and what did you use for a tie down point for the fridge?

I like the design, I've been trying to decide if I want to use a plywood mount or design a base that is custom fit for the third row seat mount points in my vehicle. Plywood mount starting to seem like the easier option.

I ordered the slides from a supplier named Orr & Orr. Shipping was quick and the price is pretty hard to beat for locking slides with a 500lb rating.

I ordered an ARB tie down kit. A bit expensive, but it was easy to mount to the diamond plate. I'm certain there are easy cheaper ways to do it.

What do you mean by a plywood mount? My slides are mounted through the aluminum floor of the trailer. I apologize if I misunderstood earlier.

Thanks for the info on the slides.

Sorry, I saw wood under the slide and figured it was mounted to plywood. Since I'm not using drawers in my vehicle, the options are 1) plywood base and use third row seat mounts, 2) drill through the floor, or 3) design the base of the slide to work with the third row seat mounts.

Here's mine. There's room for the arb 60, a 4 gallon water tank, and even an arkpak in front. I wanted my heavy stuff on the strongest sliding unit. Slides with ease and rock solid with no rattles. And no room to spare!

Nice setup! Do you recall the brand or where the 4 gallon water tank came from? I'm not having any luck locating similar online. At first look I thought it was rotopax, but the design is a bit different and they seem to do fuel only in the 4 gallons. Thanks!

This just popped back up and a realized I never followed up. I ended up with the ARB fridge slide for my 63qt. Purchased through Amazon with the intent of copying the design, buying heavy duty locking slides and making my own then returning it but I ended up liking it so much and deciding the ~$150 in cost savings wasn't worth all the time I was going to spend building one and then worrying it wouldn't be as nice.

You have to make some adjustments to the ARB slide to get it to slide perfectly, but these are all detailed in the instructions that come with it.

Ya, it was very hard to find. I eventually found it at Viking Offroad. I think it was their last one though and i don't believe it's marked with a brand. I flipped it over and simply threaded a tap on to the air inlet. That way I can fill it from the big nozzle without removing it from the truck

Thanks for the info. After googling around for a while more, I came up with the Expedition One Geri pack. I think it might be the same (minus your mods)? Currently on backorder.

@jlmo - quick question, it looks like you are only securing those slides in place with the built-in locking feature of the slide itself. Is that correct? Any problems with noise or rattles?

Also, do you think you need both sides of each slide to have a lock or not? If you look at my photo above, my large drawer only has one side locking. Allegis sells them in pairs like this if you want. I am trying to build a fridge slide for a friend and trying to make sure this will work out as planned!
