Freezing temps and your fridge

:wavey: Hello all,
I use my fridge only a couple of times a week for training and searches. Usually used for 4-5 hours at a time. I currently do not have a dual battery hookup.
So on to my question. I am wondering if the temps, just now getting down to freezing at night, will hurt the unit. It is an old Norcold I dont recall the model number.

Thanks for any insite

Your fridge is a compressor fridge, so ambient temperature will only effect the frequency that the compressor kicks in the maintain the temperature you have selected. If the ambient temperature is low then the compressor with be used less, and you will use less power. It will have no effect on the temperature of the inside of the fridge.

If you set the fridge outside in sub-zero conditions the fridge will act to insulate the contents due to it's construction. However at some point if the fridge is left out for prolonged periods in sub-zero condition the temperature of the interior of the fridge will be lowered.

A propane fridge uses a heat loss system and ambient temperature greatly effects what happens inside these fridges. If the ambient temperature drops the fridge box also drops in temperature. Typically this type of fridge freezes the contents at night and acts like a cooler during the day.

I have had a 110V chest freezer plugged in outside my garage for 20 years. It is exposed to subzero (F) temps every winter. Naturally, the thermostat ensures it never runs when ambient is <0 F. It probably isn't great to run electric motors at subzero temps but since it doesn't run at those temps, no harm done.
It still works.
