front diff

I have a possibility of picking up a Starion lsd, I have a 91 LS 3.0 will that diff fit in mine? I've searched and I see post that the Starion diff will fit the 4 cylinder engine, but I wasn't sure if the all the front diffs were the same or different in the 3.0.

You need the late model Starion LSD, the early Starion LSD is the only option for the 4 cylinder front diff.

Your diff is 8" 28 spline, you need that LSD so i'd look at 88-89 Starions (could be '87 as well), you could also go with a Aussie locker for about the same amount of work and possibly money.

The earlier starion led will fit your 3.0 diff perfectly. The issue is the spline count. To get around it you'll need to swap the 3.0. half shaft between the diff and passenger cv for a 4 cyl half shaft. It's about an extra 20 minutes of work since you'll already be in there. Don't forget to add a new 4cyl oil seal in the pass side of the diff. I had this set up on mine and loved it. The issue with Aussie lockers is the potential need for shims to get it centered correctly. The shims aren't available and will likely need to be custom made. I started with the lsd, went to an Aussie locker (had to make my own shims at a friend's machine shop, and now I'm installing an ARB. If you're not into heavy crawling the LSD will do everything you want and then some.

thx, it turned out to be an earlier Starion LSD. I want to find a later model Starion if possible. I don't think I want a locker as I will be driving it in the snow and light trails.
