Front drive axles compatibility gen 1 gen2

Toasty

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
just to be sure.

the gen 1 and gen 2 share the same axle...right? my gen 2 axles will go under my gen1.

thx

Gen 1's are low pinion and Gen 2's are high pinion. Gen 1 4 cylinders and early Gen 2's with 12v 3.0 have 7.25" front axle (these are 3/4" shorter in length) and the rest are the 8" axle. Yes they swap around but you'll need to figure out the correct front driveshaft for your combo and double check the clearance of your oil pan if using a Gen 2 axle (vacuum actuator).

Eh, kind of. Tha joints are labled and interchange with ones that have the same numbers. CV100 for CV 100 and 95 for 95 and so on. The lengths are different between Gen 1 and 2, so run the longer ones with full Gen 2 IFS.

ok best stay with my gen 1 for now.
i have heard some rumor that reman half shafts are inferior quality. any truth.

the gen one pitman has a steeper pitch to it than the gen 2 if im rightly looking. about 7 degrees on the gen 1 and nearly a flat slope on the gen 2.
i would guess that mixing and matching is what is causing my popping sound. im gonna change out ball joints b4 irun down to reno anyway.

rear bushings too. right away
i hope that outfit in AZ gots 'em in stock.

Yeah mix and match steering causes problems. Some of the aftermarked CVs have a tripod inner joint which is weaker than stock
