Jay, would this be sufficient to charge a 2nd battery installed on a camp trailer and used as a backup and occasional use for laptop, etc?

The link I provided does a pretty good job on explaining it's abilities.
I used it to trickle charge my second battery which was my backup and it worked fine, but remember it's only 5 watts.

I'm thinking about mounting this and hardwiring it in, so that it will constantly be charging the aux battery. sound like that will work?

Shipping would be $10 so the total would be $50.

I had it mounted on the roof of my van but did not have it wired permanent.

Don't see any reason you couldn't wire it up permanent.
