FT-AC as possible FJ Successor?

I still prefer the “classic” cruiser looks of the FJC. This looks like the front end of the newer 4Runners. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just doesn't scratch the nostalgia itch I suppose. I would love to see a re-designed Land Cruiser (300 Series?) with factory locking differentials and ATRAC/Crawl. Now THAT would get me excited!

Either way I'm interested to see what Toyota cooks up. They are certainly missing a segment of their “bread and butter” market by having a void where the FJC used to be in their lineup.

With +290,000 Tacoma/4Runner combined sales last year (and 2017 on track to beat that) I think that IS Toyota's 4x4 "bread and butter" now, lol.

Barf- that thing looks like the retarded offspring of an FJ Cruiser and a Honda Element. :shakin:

I think the FT-AC will be released to compete with the Jeep Renegade. The FJ was always touted as a lifestyle vehicle in the Toyota propaganda. Upon the demise of the FJ Toyota began to marked the Tacoma as more of a lifestyle vehicle. I believe that in the eyes of Toyota the role of the Tacoma has been broadened so that it is now the FJ replacement.

The FT-4X concept was not what most people on here were hoping for, but I just saw this pop up today:

Looks like it could be the FJ's successor. I brightened up the attached image just a little to get a better look at it. The article says it will be revealed on Nov 30th at the LA Auto Show.

Here's hoping.

Any idea what platform this vehicle will be based on?

Perhaps the actual FJ? It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like it has a wide stance like the FJ. Plus if it ever went to production there is already existing parts commonality/support.

the FJC was a limited 7 year run vehicle. that's what killed it not bad sales ETC or whatever other lame excuse the JK crowd comes up with. it made no sense why Toyota even made it in the first place because anyone who bought one was going to buy it or a 4runner so they were not making any money competing with themselves.

but yeah Renagade/ subi crosstrek competition. possibly a slightly more off-road oriented Rav4. probably uni-body, 4 banger, independent front and rear. Might get some sort of watered down a-trac/crawl control....but that's doubtful

Another forum put a 5 gen 4R grill on it and it lines up perfectly.

It's a #adventuremobile Rav4. Fool me once, shame on... shame on you Toyota, fool me... you can't get fooled again.

This is what the Rav4 was meant to be and what it should have progressed to.
It very much reminds me of a Suburu. I would love for my gf to drive something like this instead of the Corolla.

It appears smaller than the FJ Cruiser, which is the right direction to go in my opinion.

Land Cruiser, 4Runner and Toyota trucks have all become behemoths over the past couple decades.

At first glace I thought the roof looked like removable panels, like the ones on the renegade, but maybe not.

The roof panels on the Renegade are pretty sweet, but it’s too small. I’d love to see a similar concept make its way to the Crosstrek or whatever becomes of the FT-AC

Looks like you were right. A competitor for the Subaru Cross Trek and the redesigned Jeep Compass. I also think that the tougher look and stance of the latest gen. 4 runner was Toyota's replacement for the FJ Cruiser. Especially in TRD Pro trim.
