Fuel filter light 7.3 PSD (1995)

Didn’t know that could happen. ûyïI’m not sure exactly how, but I cannot even see all the plumbing to the fuel bowl... wrapping my mind around it would be another level of difficulty. 30k miles might be a bit long for a filter, but that’s something else.

Glad you’re back up and running.

High pressure oil system that drives the injectors runs at 2000PSI +

Fuel pressure at the injectors is typically 40-60PSI

Only thing separating the two in the injector bore is O-rings

You do the math

I never did the injector o-rings.
I got the truck with about 45k now am at about 79k. I assume injector o-rings were never done.

So drove about 1000 miles.
Used about a quart or so of oil.
Ran great and smooth the whole way.

Checked fuel filter looks ok to my untrained eye.

I’m going to keep an eye on it over the next few months.

If I do need to do the o-rings
I guess I’ll do new injectors and glow plugs since I’ll be in There.

Id also like to convert the mechanical fuel pump to electric at some point.

That filter looks fine. Best to keep an eye on it though.
Chances are that the oil is getting in the fuel, but diluted enough that 1k doesnt show it.
Id pull it every 1-2k for a while. That first filter photo you posted is horrid!

I wouldn't bother with injectors at such a low mileage.
They are 200k+ items. Unless you are talking yourself into upgraded injectors. :p

Id plan on O-rings and glow plugs. Be a good idea to look over the valve cover harnesses as well.
They are known for burning pins, mostly glow plug pins.

Unless you are going for big power, the OE cam driven pump is more than enough, and extremely reliable.
I wouldn't bother (and never have on mine) with an electric pump. From a cost and complexity standpoint, I simply cannot justify it.

Thanks.
I did all the o-rings about 5 yrs ago
/QUOTE]

So what O-rings were you talking about?

Oh
I was referring to rebuilding the fuel bowl and replacing the O-rings in that

Thanks for the advice.
I’ll probably dive into it late spring or early summer when I have some more time.

Do you have an e series van or is it an international 4700?
I think at one point I knew what truck you were working on but can’t remember now.

Thanks for once again sharing your 7.3 knowledge!!!
