Fuel Filter

Ok, so every now and then, when driving down the highway, or around town, the truck seems to lose power for a second, then comes back. I am wondering if it is the fuel filter. Someone of the forum said that Tacomas, rarely need to have the fuel filter replaced. Is this true? I called autozone, and it is only $18 to pick up a new one. I called a local mechanic, he said it was only 1 hours worth of labor. Makes me think I can change this sucker myself,if it is in fact the fuel filter. Anyone have any ideas? If it is, then are there plans on here to do so, or is it not a good idea b/c of the fuel that will exit the system under pressure. I just don't want to pay the extra $80 to have someone fix it when I can do it myself, with a little guidance. Thanks.

You can locate the fuel filter by following the hose off the fuel rail if I remember correctly. Changing the fuel filter is a cheap first step in identifying the problem.

I think this would be fine. Anything other than Toyota Factory....would be made with Toyota Factory Specs.

What type and year truck do you have?

if it's the V6, it's a piece of cake (at least up till 2004, don't know about 2005-current). If it's the I4, it's a bit trickier to get at, but still doable if you don't mind playing contortionist.

I went to autozone this afternoon, and picked up that exact part.Funny thing to come home and someone has already picked it out for me. I also looked up on ebscohost.com, and found directions, but it never said anything about de-pressurizing the system,so that was really omy only concern. Now I know. Thank you for all of your responses. I am gonna work on this first thing in the morning. And also put up some pic's about the truck and put them into my sig. Thanks again gentlemen. You guys rock.:victory:
