Fuel gauge not working after repairing rear bumper...

Well so I loaned the Monty to my brother who didn't mention that he backed into "something" until the day I was getting it back after like three months and I rather not ask how long had it been there. He paid me $140 which was how much he was quoted for a used bumper off Craigslist. So the dent was bad enough that I could not open the rear door, so before removing it and going to pick up the used one I decided to try my hand at straighten it out with a BFG and a piece of 2x4, which worked pretty good and I was even able to align the corner that was at a 45 degree angle because of it.

I'll add pictures later, so today I took it to work and realized that the fuel gauge stopped working, I was sure that I had at least right under a quarter of a tank and the fuel gauge was at the very bottom, zero, nada. I filled the tank and same thing no reading off the gauge, so I'm sure I knocked the sender out or worked a wire loose with all the banging being close to the tank. I have to wait until I get home to use my computer for the FSM and see what I might have messed up by man handling the bumper back into shape, but if you have any ideas, they are greatly appreciate it.

I'm not sure where the wiring runs to get to there, but i can tell you that the sender/hanger assembly is super cheap, so if it's not an issue in the harness itself, it's not a huge deal. :)

Sweet! At least some good news. Is aftermarket ok for this part? Or brand in specific you think would be best?

I punched the part number into Ebay and just picked whatever was cheapest. Showed up in what looked to be oem packaging, even has the oem part number stamped into the hanger. Might actually be the oem supplier, might not be. Looks fine. Haven't installed it yet, because i was apparently blind the first try and couldn't find the access panel. Would try again, but wife is driving the truck while i'm working on her FZJ80.

I'll bet the hammering did it in. I do not believe that the wiring for your fuel gauge goes any further back than the tank itself.

This sounds more like a Land Rover problem...except all I have to do is show one of mine a bfh and something breaks.

Best of luck in finding something simple to repair!

Lol the rear bumper could take some hits I can tell you that much.

This is what it looks like now, it had a kink upwards and prevented the rear gate from opening.

if the connector on the top of the tank has been disconnected before it can be a bit of a pain to get it to clip back together, mine has a tendency to pop out and the needle would drop to nothing, a few wraps of tape on it made it a lot more secure

Thanks I'll look into it tomorrow. I really appreciate the help!

So finally fixed the non-working fuel sender, or replaced it to be more specific. I ordered the new one from Amazon and it was supposed to be a OEM part...but the packaging was kind of suspicious and well it works, I just read bad reviews on the aftermarket ones sold elsewhere... Now if I could upload pictures would be great...damn you Tapatalk why you no worky!
