Fumoto oil plug drain valve

I've used ones on my test engines at work. They always seem to develop a leak at some point. Good idea, but not that great in practice.

:sombrero: They are very convenient and the new ones are angle adjustable-

I've used FUMOTO oil drain valves on my last 4 vehivces--Ford Ranger/Nissan Xterra/Dodge power Wagon/Jeep Rubi and never had any faults/defects/leaks--"BUT"-

Because of their construction/size/obvious position, you HAVE TO HAVE PROTECTIVE SKID PLATES and I always carry the old drain plug/thread tap/ easy out---in case of breakage, but thats never happened-

Too much trouble--you say--maybe for some, not me-

Whatever

those are used on alot of semi trucks across the country, i enjoyed them in my short lived career as a semi mechanic made life a whole lot easier, never had any real issues with them unless they were covered / plugged with mud or something. but on an offroad vehicle depending on where the drain was i probably wouldnt use them as it seem like it would be begging to get drug off on a rock. hell even some saplings / weeds could grab it and accidentally open it up.

I have also used these on every vehicle I've owned in the last 10 years. Have never had a problem on the street.

Just installed another on my new truck. And it came with a safety clip in addition to the lock that is already built in.
It may alleviate most of the issues people have had?

I have had one on my truck for many years with absolutely no problems. The oil pan on my truck is high enough that only running over small standing trees would scrub it off. It seems like it could not open by itself but I have installed a small spring type hose clamp over the release lever.

Definitely have to watch how this hangs on a 2003 Montero so I will have to get under my ride and check it out. Everyone I have talked to loves them. The safety clip is a nice feature. I would be cautious or skip it altogether offroad.

:sombrero: I've been using FUMOTO for over 15 years and never a problem=

Read my previous post about how to escape trouble !

I'm glad I have mine; keeps me from having to drop the skid plate to drain the oil. Behind a set of skids keeps it safe from harm...

Mine is safely above a skid plate as well, I added a small hose clamp to keep the valve lever nestled in its locked position in case a branch came up through the hole in the skid plate. Mine has the nipple for a hose, I keep a rubber cap over it to keep debris out of there as well.
