Fun question: What other 4x4 would you replace your current Toyota with and why?

If I was going to buy a new truck, probably the upcoming Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (blasphemy, I know) with the diesel. Used truck, probably an FJ80.

If I totaled my truck I'd get another 89-91 XtraCab with the only change being a V6 instead of the 22R-E. Easier to swap to the 3.4L, which is the one and only thing better about the Taco. Nothing I've seen or driven has floated my boat including the 70 series ute (yes, you heard that right), 40, 60, 80, various 4Runners and a Tacoma. That one's too big, this one's too small, blah, blah. The truck I have now with a 5VZ and functioning A/C would be exactly the right truck.

Ranchero, could that be licensed in Colorado with the changes to the collector car laws? Not sure how the emissions stuff would work out since the 3L-TE didn't come here. Might be able to use a 2L, although you run into the swap must be your model year or newer issue maybe.

Assuming my truck is totaled/destoyed...

If money is an object: I would try to find another 4x4 T100 with low miles...it's a hard truck to beat on for size, cost, and reliability for the way I use my truck.

If money is no object: My dream ride is a full-blown U-Joint Off-Road 7.3 diesel van or ambo with the interor built as a camper by HDRV. I've seen MegAmbo in person...holy smokes is that thing sweet, and those guys were nice enough to show me around one day. Good group out there.

It's been swirling now for a few minutes and I have to make a confession. Money being no object I'd probably get a 4x4 Sprinter of some sort. Big enough without being audacious, just the modern take for the stylish dirtbag version of my Hilux + WilderNest outfit. IOW, the Lopes 55 Special...

I had a D90 before my FJ, but I got run off the road in Utah and rolled it and my Bushwakka Fargo trailer 4 times and totalled both. I really loved that D90 but the FJ is way more comfortable for the long drives I take to get to places I go offroad. The FJ is much more reliable as well. If I moved on from the FJ I'd probably go for a land cruiser. If money was no object I'd get a Mercedes G-Wagon and a D90 as a spare. :bike_rider:

If our double cab were to perish in some horrible tragedy, I would be forced to eeny-meeny-miny-moe between a 4R TE, an FJ, or a J80..

If I could afford it, a new LC200. If not, as boring as it is, I would probably buy a similarly equipped Tacoma to the one I have now. It just works.

When my truck manages to implode in its own awesomeness, I'd love a low mileage, rust free, 91' Jeep Grand Wagoneer Final edition. I already own one but it is just held together by rust so I'm waiting to find another for everything non-metal to be swapped over. And since money isn't a problem, I'd spend countless millions in R&D to do whatever I could to make it get a biblical amount of mpg, and NEVER rust! Then I'd just drive off into the sunset.

One of the many joys of living in the high country is no emissions inspections, so just have to adhere to the 25 year rule, which is based on date of manufacture. So 1990s manufactured in late 89 will be eligible soon. I guess an 89 would be importable now. Hmmm.

Yeah, forgot about that. The state put where I live now (Larimer) into Air Care a few years ago unfortunately. It sucks because I was looking forward to the 25 rule coming into effect for my '91 but the state changed it so that only 1975 and older are eligible for new issue and got rid of the rolling 25 year rule. If you had them on something newer already you got to keep them but no new ones. So my truck will now and forever have to keep passing emissions, so I'm stuck using model year correct and EPA compliant engines.

Right now, if my '02 Tundra Access Cab suddenly got squished. I think I can say without doubt I would replace it with another 1st Gen Tundra. I really like the truck, but also have way too many parts piled up for a Tundra build right now not to have a Tundra. Only thing I'd change, '06 DC instead. Or a diesel Hilux.

If D.A.V.e went away tomorrow, I'm not sure what I'd get. If it was a couple of years from now, I'd get a new Colorado with the turbo-diesel option

Kept my FJ but

I've been looking at all kinds of Rigs for about 9 months, I pulled the plug on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, 2 weeks ago. After I drove the Jeep Diesel I was snake bit for sure. I had been sold on a Range Rover Sport or a LR 4 but, a 30 MPG Diesel was the selling point, only time will tell how good my choice is.
Have to admit my doubts lead me to purchase the longest extended warranty available, the electronics make me the most nervous, the Range Rover would not have made me feel any different. My FJ has earned the right to stay in my garage, probably forever. Undoubtedly the most trouble free 4x4 I've ever owned, just wanted more zip, creature comforts and better mileage, thus the Diesel is in my Garage beside the FJ. Wish me Luck
