Fun Topic- Which Spark Plugs?

Brian, do you have SAI?

Could the engine mounts be removed, and drop the engine just a few inches, might help?

I've said it a number of times, they got so many things so right with this truck, and so many things so wrong. That's the worst coil placement I've ever seen.

Street Wolf,
IMHO don't mess around with trying to figure out the spark plugs. This is one of those items it is best to just trust in the engineering that went into the vehicle to begin with. Many aftermarket options that are "marketed" well may not work well with the system and actually cause headaches.

I suggest going to NAPA and getting the Champion plugs. Land Rover has thier plugs made by champion and the number can be directly cross referenced to the Champion publicly sold plugs. NAPA carries them for about $5.50 each vs $19 at the dealership.

I did a write up somewhere here on this. I will look for it and post a link.

Regards,
Brian

x2. I've always had good results from the standard OEM Champions.

Hello all - I work for an automotive supplier in gasoline engine management, so I've seen what all goes into determining the OEM plug. From my experience, I would suggest to install the exact same plug that the engine was designed with. Others have already suggested this, and I agree that this is the best way to go for reliability. There is a lot of marketing involved with extra features in the aftermarket for plugs, but none really make a significant improvement in FE or any other measureable metric.

I pretty much use NGK's in everything - they've worked best in all of my vehicles from Rovers (those that use plugs) to Porsches and everything in between. Back in 1972 my two stroke motorcycle was supplied new with a Champion plug plus a spare in the toolkit under the seat and I managed to foul both of them within a few weeks. I replaced the Champion plug with an NGK and never had another fouling issue again - that pretty much sold me on NGK's. A few years ago I tried a set of new Bosch platinums in the Range Rover Classic and they failed the emission test so I reinstalled the used NGK's and passed on the retest.
