Some people got upset because I started this thread in the camper section, oh well Ill start it here now for you folks.

Problem: Family of 3 (almost 4) wanting a cabover 4x4 truck. no crew cab here is the US of A.

Solution: Fuso w/ pass though to the XPCamper Cube with seating in the rear.

Timeline: Looking at having everything completed by the end of this year (2015).

Have you ridden in or driven a Fuso FG yet?

They'll be in for a rough ride back there. I can't see the kids or the wife not getting a little car sick.

I wouldn't go with the pass though; as it eats up too much living space for what you get. Keep in mind, you'll have to disconnect the boot between the cab and the camper every time to tilt the cab forward. That's fine in a shop, but can be problematic with both the cab and camper body open to the elements.

Have you considered a crew cab pickup truck and XPcamper instead?

I love my Fuso based expedition vehicle and I think that Marc makes a fine camper - but I'm still worried that you are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Fitting a square peg into a round hole is not all that difficult... you just need a big enough hammer! :)

I did look at putting the CUBE on a RAM but the total length is somewhere in the 25' mark which is way too long.

Round hole square peg, its all the same. Im not know for doing what everyone else is doing anyway. Id buy a Earth Cruiser is i could afford it, but i can build one for about $100K less, and yes I know IT wont be as perfect but it will work.

I did have a chance to drive one, yeah it is a little bouncy but I plan on putting some better suspension and a single rear wheel which will help.

But everyone here will have a front row seat to whatever carnage arises from the "Round Hole, Square Peg" show.

Enjoy.

John (JRhetts) on the Portal here has a 'perfect' setup for his pass-though on his FM260 (an Uber-Fuso). Very slick, no sealing or wear problems and nothing to do special to tilt the cab.
Best wishes on your project, I think is should come out great and I am looking forward to watching it progress.

BTW - Mike (mhiscox) had some nice 'proof of concept' photoshops of the molded cabin he was selling back in 2009 on a single cab Fuso and a Doublecab Fuso. Of course it is not the same thing as the XPCamper Cube, but maybe something you would be interested.

One of these with two bunk bed slides on a F550 would probably cost you a little less and good chance the F550 is going to give you a nicer safer ride than the commercial tip cab.

I have two kids and the whole game of what sort of workable format do we want to spend $$$$ on is always a big question. However right now its easy given we never seem to get out camping much so justifying lots of $$$$ on a rig doesn't make sense. Same thought about selling our 28ft tubby family cruising sailboat for a sleek world cruiser, doubt we will use it enough to justify that outlay. The nice thing is many of the folks doing big builds seem to get out there and go too!!! Good luck!! Curious to see what you end up doing.

Yeah i'm sorry for not posting up.

So over the past few weeks I've been talking back and forth with Marc. We have decided to do a full hard sided camper. It makes everything easier, its not what ether of us really wanted but it was the right choice for what I needed, ie: having kido's ride in the back.

We came up with a nice floor plan that sleeps 4. We are both pretty excited about this Cube. Marc said he could have the outer structure completed May of 2015'ish. Ill put up the specs as soon as they are finalized! But im pretty freaking excited about what we have come up with, and for the price there is nothing on the market that comes close.

Marc is also going to be modifying the 2015 Fuso for me. So when I pick it up it will be expedition ready.

For the past week or so Ive been working on setting up my "company" and working on getting funding. So that has been pretty tedious.... I have a regular job too so splitting my time is always the challenge. Ill try and keep you guys in the loop better in the future.
