:coffee: Surely then they can take pictures of a tape measure against the truck.

What's the final design looking like? Pass thru? Hard sided or cloth popup?

Per Marc's request I cant/wont post the CAD mark-ups until the design is finalized. We originally wanted to do a hard sided popup like he normally does, but since I need to have kids in the back... pass through and windows, we are just going to do solid hard sided, not unlike the EC model they are coming out with.

Since Marc and I are creating the floor plan from scratch it is taking some time. But I can tell you guys it will be pretty cool, and of course cheaper than all other Fuso based rigs for sale ( of course EC has not released their pricing on their hard sided model but im making an educated guess).

Ill post something ASAP.

Fuso pass thru

We're looking at doing pretty much the same setup as you are, with the exception of possibly using an Alaskan camper on a Fuso. I would be very interested in how the pass thru is done, and who is doing it.

Any other Fuso owners have pass thru currently? I've seen some Oz based units with them, and there is a post on Truck Camper Magazine that shows one.

TIA

rffarm -

I noticed this is post 1 - welcome to the Forum. Sounds like you either have a Fuso or are considering it. Please share some details. I can't answer the pass-thru question because I didn't see the need for one on my rig but it's definitely been done and I am sure you will get some answers.

Good Luck!

Yes indeed, post 1. We are taking delivery of a new 2013 model next week. Build out for a Canadian/Alaska exploration next year to commence in the coming months. Looking forward to any suggestions or comments.

Sure! ATW, Earthcruiser and GXV all do pass-throughs. Is anyone well enough versed to do a compare-and-contrast?

Can't give you an opinion on the different pass thru's, but if the Alaskan is a popup, on all 4 sides, you'll face the same challenge I did at the start. How do you get the hard popup piece to either pop out or fit under/over/thru the lifting panel? A number of the pass thrus are fairly high on the Fuso cab. Short of a set of doors in the camper you open/close on lowering, or a rolling door style arrangement, or have it high enough that the lifting portion is above where the pass thru is, how do you make the join between between the lower portion of the camper and lifting section?. It's something you'd need to solve for.

I spent much brainpower on it early on in the piece but couldn't come up with an arrangement I was happy with. So I put my spares between the cab and body, did away with the idea and moved onto the next thing.

I appreciate the input Maninga and Pugslyyy. I've got a long way to go before I really have to sweat over this.

I really like the Alaskan Campers - but I would probably be in the camp of not doing a passthrough to it, leaving a space between the camper and cab for spares, etc. But I'm interested to see what you come up with!

Overland West is a bit of a hike, but Overland East is going to be pretty close to you - hopefully see you at one of them and we can compare vehicles!

I can't wait to see the drawings... I have been very excited about this project as it exactly what I want to do... Now if Mitsubishi would only bring in the damn double cab!

yeah it would be nice. given the landscaping business it sure seems like there would be a market, but maybe those trucks just park on the street. I'm sure that their corporate folks understand the market better than I do. oh well, we can always hope
