Fuso FG Insurance?

I picked up a 2000 Fuso FG with a dump bed that I want to use with a Bigfoot 3000 camper. The problem is in getting the truck insured. Progressive tells me that they won't insure it as a personal vehicle because it is a commercial truck and some other companies have told me that they won't insure it as a commercial vehicle because I'm using it for personal use. How are some of the rest of you in the States managing this?

I insure mine along with my other vehicles thru American Family. Mine does not carry commercial license plates and American Family classifies it as an RV or motorhome. Did you ask them to register it as an RV? Lots of RV's are built on commercial trucks.

I think it's the same size, but on my 404 mog I insured it with Allstate as a mercedes pickup.

I think you may have just not met the right insurance agent yet. As I understand it you need to have the Fuso registered as a truck because you do not intend to permanently mount the camper? Most of us here permanently mount the camper box which allows the rig to be titled as an RV.

I insured mine via American Family. I told them it was my personal vehicle. I put stickers on the doors specifying for private use only.

Look at me, I'm a landscaper!

I tried American Family with no luck; they don't write policies in Michigan. I did manage to insure it through Progressive as I do have a little side business/hobby that involves sub-surface irrigation systems. (Look up "Olla Irrigation" on YouTube.) Voila! I'm a landscaper who will be using his truck to do seminars at various locations across the US. I'll continue to look for less expensive alternatives, but at least I can get the license plate and fetch the truck from Weymouth, MA this weekend. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks! That's what I thought when I saw the Craigslist photos, and it only has 67,000 miles. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will be in order when I fly in to Boston pick it up this Saturday.

Mine's a 99. Adding Aeon rubbers in place of the hard bump stops was one of the best things I did to my truck. Also be aware that the rubber flap hanging down in front of the AC condenser will blow backwards at high speeds and make the AC ineffective. Get it out of the way.
