Fuso inadequate AC system fixed

I'm not convinced the protection is really necessary. What do other think? .

As one who once accidentaly put a screw through a condenser on a patrol,
once the hissing noise stops and the place is covered with bright green dye you then have to go through the pain of trying to find a replacement part, fitting it then paying some robbing so and so to vac the system down and re charge it
I could have spent that $500 dollars better elsewhere
so in short - yes I reckon its necessary

The reason I question the necessity of the flap is that the engine radiator is exposed with no protection. There is the plastic grill but it has holes large enough for stones to fly thru. And the engine radiator is upright as opposed to laying almost flat.

Can't say I am too worried about the radiator but I do need to go down and check out the position of the condenser to my bumper. Maybe just getting better airflow to the condenser may improve the cooling issue.

I checked the position of the rubber flap and it is about 5 inches behind my box bumper. The bottom of the box is about even with the bottom of the condenser. Air can flow through the bumper. For reference the bottom of my bumper is nearly even with the lower step. With my setup I see no use for the rubber flap. Of course I could be missing something. I figure it gives me an excuse to by a temperature data logger and run some tests with and without the flap. We should still have some 100 plus days left to play with.

I would like to know what your data turns up. I was astounded by the differences in my vent temp air at slow speeds versus highway speeds. I was using a non-contact thermometer the measure the temperatures.

I don't know if these OEM guards are designed to stop human errors Stu... ;)

I dare say they're not
unfortunatley nothing can protect an innocent machine against a dufus with a screwdriver
my point was some sort of guard would be essential maybe not the air stopping flap but a mesh grille would do the trick
the condensor is in a vunerable spot and could fall prey to junk being kicked up of the road
the consequences are costly
although not as upsetting as knowing you did it all by yourself

I don't think the condenser is in an vulnerable a spot as the transmission cooler since it is in front of the front wheels. So flying rocks that damage it would have to come from a vehicle in front, unlike the transmission cooler which is behind the front wheels.

Here's what we used to protect ours. It provided protection for many miles, including weeks and weeks and weeks of gravel roads.

However, as noted, it will not provide protection from a human wielding a screwdriver... ;)
