FUSO Recall

I opened my mail this AM and found a "safety recall notice" from MFTA.

Safety Recall Notification - C1003610 - AISIN A/T Shift LInkage
NHTSA Safety Recall - 08V-224
"Please be advised that your 1999-2004 Model Year FE639, FE640, FE649, FG639, or FH210 truck referenced by VIN number below is open to a safety recall related to the automatic transmission shift linkage."

If you aren't the original owner of one of the models indicated call MFTA customer Service 877-711-0707 as it might be awhile before you get notified.
Thought I'd pass this along.
Guess I get to make a trip to Lubbock.

Don, I believe that includes yours.

Hey Bruce,

Muchas gracias for the heads up. I'll have to look into this because we did a recall two years ago on the shift linkage and I have to check to see if it is the same thing or a new recall.

We are heading out in two weeks for the east coast to ship to West Africa. Would really have hated to find out about this problem when it croaked in the Sahara!

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Don,
I had that one done back then too. This is a new one. They say the linkage can be deformed by heat from the exhaust. It can cause binding which can prevent the shift lever from working properly. I figured that you have much more run time on your engine than I do so it may be more critical for you to get it checked.
Have a great trip.
I'll be following your reports.

Hi Kerry,

We are shipping from Baltimore to Belgium and driving south to start our expedition in Morocco. We wanted to ship from the US direct to Dakar, Senegal, but Atlantic Container Lines (ACL) didn't want to sponsor us. Their cost was about $4,000.00. Our regular sponsor Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) was more than happy to continue our relationship and ship us to Belgium. No problem, now we can stock up on wine and cheese on our way south!

We always ship RORO and have not had a single problem with WWL. There are many stories about LOLO that will curl your hair and we would never ship that way unless there were no other options (and we would definitely buy insurance!).

We have previously shipped from Panama to Venezuela, Colombia to New Zealand, NZ to Australia and Australia back to Panama. Can't say enough good things about WWL.

Don't know what your European route is scheduled to be, but we absolutely loved the beaches of Brittany when we had a motorhome over there about 6 yrs ago. Don't know how late in the season the campgrounds are open in France.
