Even if somone just painted it Tangiers, it's still probably worth $17k. But you won't be able to register it without shuffling some paperwork, I'd imagine.

Most of the 2003's I see are around $9-10k for a D2 (yes - not Tangiers). There have been some questions asked that have gone unanswered, but I'd assume it was/is likely here on a bond so Carlo would be forfeiting that if it stays here and sells, and since I'd assume it's impossible to register this truck here, it would basically be a parts truck anyway - of which there are plenty available here for under $5k with blown motors. It's also missing some of the major G4 accessories that usually allow these G4s to sell at a premium.

I traded my 2004 F250 Super Duty for a 2004 Discovery. By far the best trade I've made. If I had the money though I'd be looking seriously at the TD5 that RMR has just to be different. There's something really attractive about almost doubling MPG.

Once and for all; I hate it for all you folks who live in stringent enforcement states. Gray market vehicles are no big deal here in the south. Not as bad here as it is on D-web, but everytime someone gets a whif of a diesel conversion or a gray market vehicle conversation, everybody's panties get in a wad and then the postings of EPA chapter and verse are all over the net and then the post is totally trashed.

As it has obviosuly happened here, and otherplaces, the internet pissing contest posts that always evolve on these two subjects are really, really old.

Luke, If I hadnt have moved from Atlanta, Id been up there most rickytick to fog the glass on that truck. Way cool.

well it looks like we've got a certified genius right here...go ahead, buy it and see what happens. It's worth 10k, maybe, and the legality just add's to the hassle. Sure it can be tagged, but in a lot of places it won't be that easy, or even possible. So warning somebody is problem for you, don't like it, tough ****.

The fact is the truck is here and for someone with the resources is a pretty cool opportunity. As far as its worth......Like "THEY" say, something is worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it!!! www.KBB.com says a stock 2003 D2 with 60k on it is worth $9339.0 private party and $11114.0 Retail. This doesn't include all the mods and extras. Looking at the trucks listed under your name you know how much it costs to Prep a truck for exploration!!!!! This also doesn't include the fact that its a G4 challenge truck. I own a very reputable shop and will not put that reputation on the line just to sell a truck for a customer. This is an opportunity to own a very cool truck that is a part of Land Rover History!!!! ;o) P.S. I would love to see a picture of your D2!!!! not a pissing match, but a highly modified truck is usually worth less than a bone stock truck...I never found the allure about buying a G4 truck, it only means that somebody beat the living crap out of it because it wasn't theirs, didn't have to worry about if it broke during the comp and didn't have to worry about it making home from the comp. Add to it the probability of having some issues getting tagged (yes, I know, there's 10 guy's who won't have a problem, but there's 50 that will...)

You know I've NEVER sold a modded truck for lest than a stock one would have went for. In all but one case I usually got KBB plus the price I paid for the accessories. The only one I lost money on was a 1983 Toyota Hilux that I spent 25,000 making it into a brand new rock crawler. If your seling a truck for less than a bone stock one would have been there are only 2 reasons I can think of. 1) The accessories were getto rigged, and looked it. 2) You just didn't care about losing the money and wanted a quick sale. Where do you people come up with this "Idea" that you get the mods for free? At a discount compared to having them installed at a shop later, sure but come on. Go to your local Jeep dealer and get the lifted Wrangler for less than the Base model. Better yet get a LR4 with a free factory winch installed, because obviously you don't pay for mods if their already done to the truck.

Sorry but this crap has got to be the most idiotic stuff I've heard about buying a used 4x4.

I understand the culture of mods not paying off in the long-run, in terms of resale. It's the same with motorcycles as well. It's just a reality.

All things being equal (i.e. this being a legal/easy truck to register), in my view it gets added value from the little things like the winch tray, on-board air, interior locking and rear storage stuff. Plus if you really read his list of accessories there is quite a bit of value there.

It's easy to baseline every DII at $10k or less, mods or not, but I really don't think he's too far off the mark here. With all the kit offered this is definitely a turn-key expedition truck. And in turn-key I mean right down to the sleeping bags, fishing rods, and water purification tablets. Did anyone else really look at what it's included? Sure, you could assemble the collection by hand, maybe even a little cheaper -- but you have to expect to pay a premium for it to be provided to you in a single stroke of a pen.

$17k doesn't scare me -- but the RHD and getting it registered does. Is there anyone in the US even doing RHD-LHD conversions on DII besides ECR?

And guys, Luke is good folks as mentioned above.

I have had a very nice CT110 scout truck, a TReK or two, XDs, etc, and even one of the two orig G4 big body Rangies. There are certainly ways to title and drive them, though each state varies widely. I am not a RHD fan, and it would be a bad investment in my mind to convert this one to LHD, as that certainly will dwindle the value. The G4s and TReKs do now qualify for membership in the CTOC if that matters. And we will most certainly scrutinize the pedigree. These trucks are not for everyone, but for LR history buffs or Special Vehicle enthusiasts, it is a good find.

I can see where you're coming from -- a 2003 with those miles, in that condition, OK, got it, not worth $17k. But if you're trying to offer an objective opinion on the truck's value you must factor in the G4 heritage, because that's added value to many people. Then you absolutely must factor in the exhaustive list of accessories, even if many aren't vehicle specific. He's selling an entire "adventure" kit here. If you broke it down, piece by piece, I really don't think $17k is far off the mark.

He's not selling a stock or even mildly modded '03 DII. He's selling a SV truck with a story and a significant amount of outdoors-related gear.

Yeah, I know, the hardcore DiscoWeb/Rover Krawler community kind of snub their nose at mods/accessories. But $5k to $7k? C'mon now.
