"Another significant change is the adoption of Mercedes-Benz's 7G-tronic seven-speed automatic transmission in place of the old NAG1 five-speed automatic transmission found on the army version. It features a transfer case capable of altering between a 0.87:1 high range ratio for on-road driving and 2.16:1 low range ratio for off-road conditions to all six-wheels in a nominal 30:40:30 split.

The power for the rear most axle is by way of a extra shaft. There are no fewer than five electronic differential locks offering 100 per cent lock up of all six wheels, operated by three switches on the dashboard."

It is completely ridiculous and absurd. Perfect for the extremely wealthy for glamping. Axle articulation is pretty lame, at least by what the video shows. Turning circle is huge.

Having said all that....I would drive it in a second!!

The Australian army uses the G-series now, doesn't it? With the 6x6 Perentie having been a proven platform (AFAIK) and now going out of service, it could find a home there. Depending on the load carrying capacity I'd guess a lot of military forces could be target customers.


Hard to imagine 20-30 sales per year could justify development costs, but the G is such a high dollar/hand-built/long-long model life vehicle normal economics for vehicle production don't apply.

Cool video. There doesn't look like a lot of articulation in that video, as RMP&O noted. Maybe that's the boulevardier version.

A few things of interest;
-Factory-backed G 6x6 for the CIVILIAN
-LeTech portals/underbody protection/etc (whenever have you seen a vehicle from the factory which incorporates a "tuner's" parts?
-Remote reservoir susp...reservoirs look like Ohlins, but logo doesn't look like Ohlins. Anyone get a close-up view of whose susp it's running?

Of course not coming to the USA.......

It has bad flex because by design 6x6's don't allow for a lot of wheel travel. Prop shaft from one rear axle to the other is why. Pinz is independent all around and is as bad if not worse than this Benz for flex. The Volvo 6x6 is only slightly better than a Pinz and it is on leaf springs. So even a $500,000 Benz 6x6 is going to be limited with rear axle flex simply due to the nature of the 6x6 design. I would imagine though that a design similar to the Pinz but with long travel stuff, ie trophy truck style, would net the best flex on a 6x6 since the diff doesn't move up & down like on solid axle trucks. The main limiting factors with any 6x6 is the rear prop shaft between rear diffs. That and the turning radius is usually very poor. But traction wise, they drive up anything.
