Laptop #1: Intel or Nvidia graphics? Did it come with windows XP sp3 (i.e. does it have the sp3 COA)? Do you have the original install disks?

Looks like Nvidia Ge Force Go 7300. It originally shipped with Vista (ugh). I installed XP SP3 with my Dell reinstall disk, which is not included. Windows has been activated on this machine and I think the patch updates are current as of last week.

Yes, both models do. Male DB9 if memory serves. Speaking of old school, it looks like the D600 also has DB25(?) printer port.
