garmin nuvi 260 for offroad nav?

have an opportunity to pick one up cheap and was wondering if i could down load topos to this unit? would it be good fro occasional off-road travel? i will mainly be on forest service roads in the mon and george washington nat forest (wv and va) but will alsoo throw in old county roads (back roads) as well. i can get a real god deal on this unit but if it is not worth it i will save my money to put else where. thanks

the 260 will run the topo map but the unit does not like it. My girl has a 260 and I have a 550 nuvi just for fun I threw my topo us in the 260 and while it does display it, it is very slow to zoom and navigate with. so it does work but its not ideal.

I just got the Nuvi 780 and the Garmin streets map 2009 edition that is on it has most of the service roads in GWNF on it. It should leave a track of any place you go that doesn't have the road on the map. And I think you could upload that track to something like ExpertGPS; don't quote me on that cause I haven't tried it yet....

went ahead and bought the 260. sister-in-law had bought it for her boyfriend at circuit city. their going out of business so she really didn't want to deal with taking ti back. i noticed that it has alot of the service roads in the mon national forest, so oi think it may suffice with outu the topo. especially if ti will slow it down. all in all, it seems to be a very solid base gps. thanks fro the replies.
