I picked up a three wheeled bicycle at the local dump recentlly...thinking about throwing on a 2 stroke weed wacker engine and using this for retrieving my mail from the box...driveway is about 500 ft long and I hate walking
Looking at the generic ebay kits with the chinese gas motors but does anyone have a link to good kits/parts for gas bicycle conversions...
Thanks..,
Matt

Head on down here to Prescott to the pawn shops and you'll find one on the cheap. Prescott has tons of those things buzzing around. Because we have a lot of rehab houses, and most of them require their residents to own a bike, many of them use their transportation stipend to buy gas conversions. In fact, I just saw a fantastic Felt cruiser fitted with a gasser for sale for $200 last week.

Also thinking electric but most of the DIY kits are the hub motors...wondering how hard it would be to sync the two rear wheels on my trike...that would rip

Here is a pic of the trike...gotta love dumpster diving

Syncing the motors shouldn't be an issue. Is your's 2wd or 1wd? Even if they are synced, it should work out okay.

There used to be a bunch of those things running around here, we dubbed them "Team DUI"....

However, there was a city ordinance banning them.

If they aren't perfectly synched I am picturing spinning in a circle or flipping over?

You know, I built some little electrics cars when I was a kid, they had independent speed controls on 1 rear wheel each. I had no problems, so I assumed that this application would be similar. I've seen a ton of cars that used 1 FWD engine in the front, and one in trunk, and they two don't need to be synchronized (I know, drastically different setup, gas versus electric, etc, but that's what I was thinking when I replied above).

A quick poke around, and I think I may very well be wrong.

Sounds like syncing may be important after all.

i put one of the happy time china motors on mine, got it from thatsdax if I remember. It ran pretty good as a helper engine, I think 15mph was the top speed. It was mounted on a diamondback cruiser bike, I eventually sold it to a neighbor to use at car shows.
It was a fairly easy install. I would not consider it the most reliable thing, as it is a cheap chinese motor, I think I went through a couple ecu's. There are robin-subaru setups that are fairly reliable. All in all it was a fun project.
