gasoline heaters

In the planning (dreaming) stages right now. Looking at converting a cargo van for some long weekends, maybe some longer road trips as well. Thinking about heat. There are plenty of good reviews of the cheap china diesel heaters. Learned that there are often altitude limitations or high altitude kits for them. Learning a lot about them and the high dollar European big brothers.

But I am not planning diesel. I would rather not add another fuel to haul around. I should always have plenty of fresh gasoline. And generally won't need much heat either. Being in Arizona and not really planning on snow camping. Mainly looking to have a little morning heat. Take the edge off on those frosty mornings. Planning on hauling a motorcycle and camping in the lower desert in the winter or higher mountains in the summer.

So what are my gasoline heater options? I see Webasto has a 2kW gasoline burner. It is specific model to gasoline over diesel. Some of the china specials bounce back and forth on the fuel as if they will run either, or the translator didn't translate correctly. For what little I need heat, a good review $150 sure sounds better than a $1500 top of the line.

I can always fall back and just get the diesel heater. But want to see my other options first.

Personally i would never use a Gas-China heater, with Diesel i would pick China.

Gas in an in closed place could go sideways fast, even mounted out side i wouldnt trust it.

We are also looking into Webasto as a potential solution for our global overland build. I sent them a message on Facebook and they were very cordial and quick to respond. I gave their team on FB my requirements for my build and they are going to contact me after January 4th as their staff is taking a holiday break.

But they have good reviews from what I've seen and Webasto seems to be a good option for gasoline fueled heater.

I have seen these advertised recently and if you look at the specs closely everyone I've seen clearly says diesel only. I don't honestly think any of the Chinese knockoffs are petrol models. If they are I'd love to see proof. In the guise of bad translation I think they are basically trying to sell people a bill of goods. Who is going to come after them?

I don't know the special sauce that makes one of these small diesel furnaces safely and efficiently run on gasoline but there must be a little more to it than meets the eye given the cost difference.

BAD IDEA!
An old girlfriends father and his hunting buddy died in his trailer one cold night in BFE Washington. It took 3 weeks to find them... Not pretty!

Do they know what happened? Was it a wabasto petrol heater? Chinese knock off petrol heater?
I have two webasto petrol heaters and no issues with either yet, but I've used the one in the camper less than 20 nights at this point.

Heaters are just like everything else- you get what you pay for. Yep, there is certainly a premium to be paid for the engineering, safety features and reliability of the Webasto and Espar furnaces. If you're willing to potentially gamble your vehicle (fire) and maybe even your life (carbon monoxide leak or fire) with a budget model, that's your call.

I've got a Webasto heater installed in my camper van. Installation is not overly difficult if you're mechanically inclined and have some tools. If you follow the instructions, its a very safe unit.

For quick easy heat, I'd for an RV Propane Furnace and cook with propane too. Definitely the cheapest way to go and plenty of used units for bigger savings.
