Its almost January, and for some of us that means it's Rally Raid time. The 2017 Dakar starts in a few days and along with it, so does our 2017 season. Monday morning, McBride and I will commence the tear down of our trusty 230GE and begin the process of turning her into something resembling a SWB G300 with a OM606LA paired up with the 722.6 auto. We have until the end of March to complete the engine transplant, which willl include custom engine and trans mounts, some structural reinforcement to the frame, revalving the Fox triple bypass shocks, moving the spare tire rack and fuel cell reward to help counter the additional weight of the engine, and a small list of other small jobs.

The build of our race G has been documented here from last year, but under a title that would be hard to search. I figure, let's start a new thread for this year. If you missed it, you can follow the whole thing from the start here

For now, we have our all too familiar corner of the shop at OCD Custom Cycles carved out for us for the next several weeks THANKYOU Marc Beyer for for the shop space and help! The wives are on standby for absentee husbands and hopefully the wallets can be kept in the pocket WAY more than last year!

Let's do this!!

Engine and transmission are out of the G. Tomorrow we shall pull the diesel and Auto from the sedan. We are selling both the m102 and the 5 speed Getrag transmission. Not sure onprice yet, but feel free to make me an offer. Both are still in great shape.

The 606 and 722.6 are out of the sedan and stabbed into the G for a test fit. The fittment looks good with our suspension mods and the 230 engine mount locations. The size difference between the two power plants is significant!

Hoorah! The North American Rally Raid season is almost upon us! The Dakar has started and now that has a new meaning for our team having one Rally Raid under our belts. Unlike the modern day French governed Dakar, the Sonora is old school. Race what you have and hope you survive. No engine restrictions, no politics, the course will break you, true navigation, and even finishing is a gift from God!

Wish us luck, we'll need everything we can get.

Hope to see you there.

William
