Hey I'm new to the forum. I have an 87 Montero and I've read that the axle from Montero Sport circa 98 is a direct swap. I can't find any specific info on the project, tho. Anyone have advice or a link?
Basically a bolt in if you use your original springs, if you upgrade to sport springs you will need to open up the front hangers a bit so they don't squeak. You will need tools, a grinder, a drill and knowledge to work these tools and the job takes a couple hours start to finish. Look for a Montero Sport axle with an air locker and disc brakes to make the swap worth doing.
Also I have a thread somewhere on 4x4wire.com titled "1988 Montero Turbo Diesel" something or other with the swap info and if you're lucky some pictures. Google it.
Thanks for the quick response Toasty. The reason I posted here is because I could not find anything on google specific to the project, jeep-n-montero, but thanks for your valuable insight. Lots of people with 3.0s and sr swaps. Just looking for verification that it is a thing before I get too into it.
