Gen 2 '92 Montero Diesel Swap questions

Hey y'all. Picked up a fairly clean Gen 2 for real cheap from the auction cuz everyone was scared of the lifter noise of the 6g72. Replaced the lash adjusters and all is good. Though while I'm talking about it, should I be concerned about a failing oil pump? I know the 6g72s are known for developing lift tick, but I don't know if its because of the lash adjusters themselves or because there isn't enough oil pressure getting up top causing them to seize. Anyways, since I got it for so cheap I'm toying with the idea of dropping a 4m40 in.

I live in Portland so a decent market for mitsu import diesels and Canada is relatively close by if I need to source from there. Did Canada get LHD diesel pajeros? If I have to use a RHD 4m40, how much do I have to change to make it fit? I'm assuming fuel lines for sure. Starter location? Pulleys?

So, the 4M40 never came in that truck natively so you're going to need to do some extra custom fab work most likely. On the later Gen 2 (late '93) they reconfigured everything for the 24 valve engines and the 4M40 and it's literally flip the crossmember and the drivetrain is lined up for the diesel. On yours it's going to be more like swapping a 4M40 into a Gen 1 I'd imagine. Keep in mind that the transmissions got bigger in those years as well so Mitsubishi did a "bodylift" to clear, you might also need to do some work there. As far as starter location etc. should be where it needs to be unless you get some weird van engine or something but that shouldn't be too bad either.

*Note: 4D56 is the diesel for your chassis and they are available brand new with all accessories from Hyundai shipped for about $4200 if you want easy.

Saw recently (like in the past couple weeks) that Hyundai has discontinued the 4D and are no longer selling them.

if you're doing the fab work to put a diesel in, why not go with a vw diesel? they're easier to find parts and knowledge for. the mitsu diesel might fit better, less wiring and adapters

Bogus, at least we got one of the last ones then. Like everything in the Montero world, disappearing.

As I understand it, based on an explanation I saw posted by a Delica specific shop, Hyundai will continue to manufacture the 4D56t/D4BF, they've simply decided to stop selling them as stand alone crate motor units to third party shops/individuals/etc.

Which is a bummer, since it was a such a great deal, but the good news is spares and parts should continue to be made and will likely be available for quite a while as Hyundai will seemingly still be building vehicles with these motors for the foreseeable future.

So if anyone is/was planning to do a swap, now is the time to snag a D4BF before the available stock of brand new crate motors disappears.

This Delica shop in FL had been ordering the D4BFs in bulk and appears to still have 38 in stock:
