Hey peeps. Anyone know if gen 3 (2001-2002) exhaust manifold fit a gen 2.5? I search online and couldn't find an answer. Need help from gurus. I just got a gen 2.5 and left exhaust manifold has a crack. Thanks.

Honestly, the metal Mitsu uses for their exhaust manifolds is pretty stout. You can easily have it welded, and possibly on the car if it's accessible. Otherwise, yes, an early Gen3 manifold should fit. Possibly the later one from the 3.8L as well. Some subtle differences in say mounts for the heat shields may result in their deletion.

Thanks for the quick reply Jay. I asked around and many welders say no go because it's cast iron. I asked around and apparently it's a common issue for Monty. Australian companies make nice replacement headers but shipping is gonna be pricey. I'll look at the gen 3 manifold and will report back.

What is this company you speak of?

Honestly, many guys who weld are not professionally trained welders, and don't know what they're talking about. I've done it before, and even with MIG, although ARC stick welding is the best method.

RPW and Pacemaker are the two that come to mind.

Yeah it's hard to find a trained welder to tackle jobs like these. I'll ask around some more. Seems the left side manifold I've been seeing have at least minor hairline cracks on them.

The two are the ones Jay mentioned. There's a seller on ebay. Seems like pacesetters are around $500 shipped from Australia. Too bad I can't justify that cost. That's almost half of what I paid for the rig. Lol.

I will have to look into this.

How bad is the crack? When I pulled my engine for rebuild about 10k ago I noticed a small hairline crack in one of mine. I tried to find a replacement but if I remember it was either super expensive or not available. So I rolled the dice and put it back on. It hasn't caused any problems for me yet. I've heard they can get worse but until it does I'm not going to worry about it. I don't think it is the kind of thing that will leave you stranded so I'll wait until it causes a problem. Not sure how wise this it but I did it.

Hey Nick let me know if you want this gen 3, driver side. I'll text you pics tomorrow. Btw, this came from a 2002. If you have 2003and older I'm not sure if it's gonna fit.

I've got a 3.8... So not likely to fit if it came from an 02 with the 3.5.

It would be best to bring the manifold to a pro welding shop that has the correct equipment like a sand blaster and pre-heat oven, knows how to carbon arc scarf etc... After its finished you will most likely need to get the gasket surface blanchard ground to get it flat again.
