Gen 3 - Loose Connector Under Hood

Inspecting the new to me Gen 3 Montero I found this loose connector under the hood. Can someone tell me what it is for, if it should be connected and if so where? I didn't see any other connectors nearby to attach it to.

Probably a diagnostic connector of some type. There are plenty of them in the harness. Have you checked the FSM?

It doesn't look Mitsu to me.

I also see a ground wire with a ring connector that is definitely not OEM. That might be something that the PO had added.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It is the 3.5 SOHC. I have a 2001 Montero Limited.

It is at the shop now getting the timing belt, valve cover gaskets, plugs & wires, etc. done. I'll check to see where the ground wire goes once I have it back.

There is a flat spade connection on the intake that it goes to possibly.
