Gen 3 low gas light

So tomorrow I hope to bring home a nice 2003 Mitsubishi montero 20th anniversary edition and on my long journey (1000mi) I'm wondering if my Monty has a low fuel warning light, when it kicks on, and is it accurate?

Also side question :this Monty has traction control and stability control, what's the difference, I think there is a stability control button?
Should I turn that off to save fuel or will it not make any difference?

I believe it is shown as a warning on the multi-function display in the center stack. I hear it's pretty accurate, since the range counter in that display is what people go by when the fuel gauge acts funny.

Difference compared to what? Yes, there is a button, but turning traction control on or off has no difference in fuel economy.

If you're doing all freeway driving you should be able to get 360-400 miles out of a tank. I would be more comfortable with like 350 between fill ups. Of course you could bring a spare can with extra and then just see how far you get on a tank.

My range display does not update in real time like I would expect it to. On past cars I've had you can see the range go down down down. This one, not so much.

I think I'm confused about the traction control... I thought they were 2 separate systems... So on the Monty traction control and stability control are the same thing. And the traction control is only push button activated? When in 4wd?

Also does the 2003 Monty stock radio have an auxiliary plug for mp3 player?

do a little search, and you'll find that the fuel and temp gauges can read poorly due to a bad solder... it's and easy fix if you have a soldering iron handy. If you don't, find a friend that does.


You need to add more than 6 gallons of fuel to make the center stack distance to empty reset.

They do have low fuel lights, and are fairly accurate. Ours kicks on when the distance to empty reads around 30 miles or less.

The systems are related by using the same hardware, but run different algorithms. Traction control is on all the time unless you disable it. You don't really want to disable it unless you're trying to do slides or something.

Where would I be soldering? Both my fuel and temp gages are all over the place. I tried to change out my coolant temp sensor, it got better, but not completely fixed.
