You're not supposed to tell me that. Now I gotta try selling the wife on one of those instead of the Rubicon JK.

Go have her drive a Jeep. Thats what I did. Here honey I'll buy you a 2011 Rubi, then she drove it. Her direct quote " We are not paying $30k + for a vehicle that rides and drives worse than the '88" Now we own a Gen III ;-)You're not supposed to tell me that. Now I gotta try selling the wife on one of those instead of the Rubicon JK.
Actually 2001-2002 were very much based off production model. Then rule changes saw 2003-on models built on totally unrelated chassis purely as racing truck nothing in common to actual production vehicle. Here is some incite into 2001-2002 models: http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/corporate/about_us/technology/review/e/pdf/2002/14E_10.pdfI saw one of the actual Montero's that won Dakar at a show in Germany and it was a full blown race vehicle sharing almost nothing with the floor model. I do believe that ones based on floor models did well in the production class.
The sound is completely different in real life though, you hear maybe 50% of it in the video. And with the windows down its crazy, then you hear much more of the sharper high pitched racy not on high RPM's.
Ill record a video during the weekend with open windows and some downshifts and acceleration runs
