Getting gas to a Honda EU2000

Everyone who owns one of these things knows what an absolute pain they are to refill without spillage. I've recently come across the very cool system using a non-vented replacement fuel cap for the gen and a marine fuel tank to feed the gen. But I wonder about something simpler so refill from a two gallon fuel can or even the vehicle gas tank. A siphon set-up of some sort.

What would be a good, non $100 solution (like the Midwest set-up)? BTW, the biggest issue with the Midwest system is I don't want a 6 gallon fuel tank as it's too big for the hitch mount I use to carry the gen and gas can. I can order a Moeller 3 gallon tank from Overton Marine and the rest of the parts from Midwest but then I'm over $100.

Hmmm... What are you currently using for refills? I have an EU1000 and my fuel can spout fits right in the filler hole. I've also used a funnel with no mess.

Do a google search for Super Siphon.

Pretty nifty little ditty that is a no mess solution for moving fuel.

Is the genny permanently mounted? Where is it going to stay on/in the vehicle? Why not use a NO2 enrichment fuel cell? They are available in 1-3 gallon sizes, with plenty of plumbing, and VERY easy to fill. The synthetic ones are less 100bux, and if the only vent is on the cap, get another cap, and use that to plumb the lines, and the fuel cell will be vented.

I'm thinking out loud, but, w/o knowing what the genny looks like, or where it will sit, if you want an aux tank to be mounted to the genny, or the vehicle... etc...

Just opening a line of thought. I have an idea, its very simple, and relatively cheap...just having a tough time articulating it right now... lemme have a few more cups of coffee.

See if you can find something like this on eBay, or make one yourself.
Works with every size jerrycan with cam lock, 5, 10 or 20 liter.
