Ghosts and Graveyards.

This is kind of silly I know but I thought it was funny. I had my daughter out this evening shooting a few photos. She is really interested in photography and I thought it would be a great afternoon project to take her and her little Canon P&S out. We ended up at a cemetery and as it got dark she was getting a little confused about the low light and how it affected her photos.

As I tried to explain it to her and why we needed to use a tripod for slow shutter speeds, I had her run around in front of the camera as an example of how moving things blurr and stationary things do not. (she is 8, these things take a little work. :D)

Anyway it wasn't until I got home that I realized that we were in fact in a graveyard and because of that and the approaching holiday that this photo was perfect for the season.

This was just shot with her little P&S so mind the flatness.

Can I steal this idea for an assignment for my 8th graders? I hadn't thought of using this as a fun example of using a slow shutter speed. Very cool!

EDIT: I gave it to my 8th, 9th and 10th graders. They are stoked!

Slade,

Your students are lucky behind any stretch to say the least and their imagination and perspective is incredibly beautiful. WOW!

For example and I hope she doesn't mind.

This is one of my favorite photographs I have ever seen in my entire life. I love the car. It explains the setting, along with his hat and coat. I love his stance and arms/hands. It shows naivity and innocence in a positive way. I want this little boy. He is handsome, confident, concerned. Ready to stand up for something he believes in. This has changed my life. Thank you Irving Penn.

Never shall I forget you.

Your flattery will get you everywhere. Thanks for the kind words. If the students are lucky or not, that will be for them to decide. I'm just having fun teaching them the stuff that makes me excited about life.

Kasandra will be flattered you quoted her.

Sorry about the Hijack, DrMoab!

Slade, your passion is definately evident in her work and she deserves it.

Take care!

Hijack off!

Now let's see some more ghostly graveyards!

No worries about the hijack mate. I just thought it was a silly little thing anyway. She has a photo contest at school and has been bugging me for ever to help her with it. I told her I would only point her in a direction. I wasn't going to take the shot for her.

She had been following me around for a few weeks. That night I had spotted an old staircase I wanted a pic of. She wanted to try too. In the end I think her image was better than what I got. I only wish she could have grabbed it with a better camera.

Her image...

My interpretation of the same thing.

Ryan, great accidentail shot in the cemetary!

But I think the winner of the night was the shot you got of Kristen in front of the tripod! What a great candid shot!

Having a daughter that is into photography only opens up the doors when you need to explain to Nanette why you need the 70-200 f/2.8 or that 24-70 f/2.8 lens.....Just say they're to help teach Kristen:victory:
