I had a set on my work F250, were great when new, very loud and poor traction past 50% tread. I never really used them offroad.

I have been running them for about 5000 miles and love them so far. I have had them in everything but sand so far.

That's good to know. I don't run tires past 50% so that's probably not an issue for me. My current tires are 70-80% and I'll be replacing them. I love new tires. :)

Pete,

You seemed to be really happy with the performance of the destinations, why the switch?

Mike

Hey Mike -

The destinations are excellent tires. Wear well, 48lbs, 3 ply sidewall, soft rubber compound, good grip in rain, snow, rocks. They do have more tendency to chunk so you have to watch spinning them off road. I was surprised at how well they performed in deep snow. Plus, inexpensive. I really like the concept of the AT/MT hybrid. Originally, I seriously considered the Duratrac but the less durable sidewall and smaller diameter steered me away (235/85 isn't a true 32"). These Cooper tires seem to check all the boxes I've been looking for. Just need to find out the actual tire weight. I want to test them and review in comparison to other tires I've used.

What tires did you end up going with?

Hi Pete,

I am currently running 265/75/16 duratracs in a load range C. While i like them well enough and really have no real complaints, I have been eyeing the Cepek Fun Country's (old and new style), the ST MAXX's and the New Open Country AT 2's. I have been very happy with the size, but seeing your truck on 235's go me thinking, basically for all the same reasons you pointed out.

How is the snow/ice traction? Noise level?
No snow or ice yet... Guess I have not had them in much.
I read great reviews about them doing well in snow. I hope to find out this winter.

Noise level is on par with a set of BFG All Terrains... which is good.

Mike -

I looked at the Open Country AT2 and Fun Country tires. The reviews and on road drive-ability looks great. But the weaker 2ply sidewall has steered me away. 3 Ply offers much more strength/protection while off road. My brother is running the Duratrac 235/85 and they seem to work well enough for him.

The other 3ply 235/85 (true 32") tires available: Destination MT, Toyo MT, MTR Kevlar, KM2, ST Maxx.

Also, just received word today from Cooper Tires that they will be offering 255/85/16 in the ST Maxx in December this year. Great option for those wanting the skinny 33. :)

Yes, it will be great to have another entry in that size ... I love my Toyos, but they wear a bit quicker than I'd like and are pretty spendy. The Discoverer STs (the other Cooper in that size), while getting good reviews, are not as aggressive as I'd prefer. Do you have a press release link for the info on the ST Maxx offering in the 255 size? Or a pointer to more info? Not only would I like to read more, I'd love to pass it on to the 255 tire thread ... or you certainly could as well. I didn't see anything further in a quick look at the Cooper site.

I emailed Cooper sales rep. They said the 255/85 would be released in December this year. No specs or further info yet...
